چکیده

Following a period of exploration and development in the mid-late 1970’s, there was little activity at the Raft River geothermal field for the next ~20 years. US Geothermal Inc. acquired the project in 2002, and began commercial power generation in January 2008. From mid-2004 to present, US Geothermal Inc. has collected geochemical data from geothermal and monitoring wells in the field, as well as other shallow wells in the area. An additional sampling program was completed in July 2010 to measure a wider range of trace elements and key water isotopes (δO, δD, and H (Tritium)) in the field. The data indicate that the fluid geochemistry in the field is spatially variable and complex, with two distinct deep geothermal fluid types (high vs. low K, Na, Cl, Ca, Li, F concentrations) and two groundwater fluid types. These differences have been interpreted to reflect deep structural controls on fluid pathways in the field, which has compartmentalized the fluids and limited the degree of mixing between them.

Comparison of Three Tracer Tests at the Raft River Geothermal Site

Three conservative tracer tests have been conducted through the Bridge Fault fracture zone at the Raft River Geothermal (RRG) site. All three tests were conducted between injection well RRG-5 and production wells RRG-1 (790 m distance) and RRG4 (740 m distance). The injection well is used during the summer months to provide pressure support to the production wells. The first test was conducted ...

Hydrogeological model of a high energy geothermal field ( Bouillante area , Guadeloupe , French West Indies )

The Bouillante geothermal field presently provides about 8% of the annual electricity needs of the French West Indies island of Guadeloupe. It has been the subject of a large number of studies covering various disciplines. These results enable the proposal of a hydrogeological conceptual model of the field. The reservoir consists of two perpendicular sets of fractures and faults, related to maj...

An Investigation of the Dixie Valley Geothermal Field, Nevada, Using Temporal Moment Analysis of Tracer Tests

The method of analysis of the first temporal moment (mean residence time) of tracer return data was utilized to investigate the swept volume and fluid velocity between pairs of injection and production wells in the Dixie Valley geothermal field. Calculations were made using a spreadsheet program available from the Idaho National Laboratory. Jointly sponsored industry–government research at the ...

Preliminary Measurements of Concentrations of Lanthanide Elements in Geothermal Fluids from the Taupo Volcanic Zone, New Zealand

Measurement of the concentrations of rare earth elements (REE) in geothermal fluids and associated altered rocks holds promise as a potential aid in exploration for and exploitation of geothermal fields of economic importance. We have initiated a research program which will provide the basis for assessing this potential. The project involves measuring the REE content of fluids from a variety of...

Geochemistry analysis of river sediments, carbonate cemented and paleosols horizons and the implications for provenance and chemical weathering (Case Study: Saqqez River)

Introduction In theory, the bulk composition of the sediment may provide a way of determining the provenance of this material if there is sufficient diversity in the bedrock compositions. However, sediment compositions may be changed from the original bedrock as a result of transport and chemical weathering. The geochemistry of bedload and suspended sediments has been used by many workers to d...
